Painting restorer
Having trained at the restoration workshop of Douwes Fine Art in Amsterdam, I have now been working as an independent restorer for over 20 years. Originally trained as a visual artist, over the years I have developed a fascination for the magic of paint. Restoring paintings, whether by the great masters or ‘lesser’ masters, gives me an insight into the artist and the medium. This combination is what drives me to restore. Through my work for the Education Committee of the ARA professional association, I am in close contact with many colleagues. We share our knowledge and enthusiasm for the profession and for art (including painting). The many works of art I have treated over the years have shaped me into the all-round restorer I am today. With a broad range of interests and knowledge, a love for the profession, paintings and their preservation. Keeping up to date with new developments in the field is essential. I regularly take part in workshops and symposia. By attending various courses with renowned tutors, I keep my knowledge up to date and current.
